Excellent Place !! we enjoyed a lot there last year. I spend my holidays in Albany. We saw a lot of historical places, enjoyed arts, entrain, concerts, hotels arrangements, dine in cheap restaurants. Such a brilliant idea to visit there !!

Albany is one of North America's oldest cities. If you don't have time to explore all the old buildings and sites, this place in the heart of Albany's downtown can give you a great overview in about an hour's time at no charge. Large photographs combined with examples of tools, household goods and clothing help newcomers understand the early beaver and lumber trade and the importance of shipping on the Hudson and Mohawk rivers.A 20-minute movie supplements the static displays. Free maps and suggestions for walking tours, plus many detailed history books for sale.If you have more time, you can board a bus in front of the heritage center for an hour-long guided tour or strike out on foot along North Pearl Street.

The visitor center is based in a historic dutch building and the pumping station so that alone was worth seeing. The man behind the desk was so kind and helpful. There is a great exhibit of the history of Albany and even some models of cast iron stoves to show examples of the industry that once dominated Albany. We spent about 30 minutes here just absorbing all the information. Very well laid out and informative. You should definitely make your first stop in Albany the visitors center.

Great exhibits on the history of Albany, along with the most comprehensive visitor assistance by far in Albany! The staff is outstanding and feel free to ask them anything! They have free maps, brochures, a walking tour brochure, and a great gift shop and planetarium open weekends.The Visitors' center has many items from the old Dutch period of NY as well as information on Albany life in the 1800's, and the surrounding region present day. I recommended to all my friend visits once time.

First time in Albany, needed accommodation overnight and called in to the visitor centre, all staff were very helpful and gave us as many options as we required, booked our accommodation for us, gave us advice as on which attractions were available, gave us area maps at no charge. Was quite late in the day when we visited, but were not put under any pressure to hurry with our requests.
