Are you a member of a gym? Most specifically, are you a member of Atlanta Fitness formerly known as Tapout? If you are not a member and you plan to join Atlanta Fitness, let me advise you NOT to join it.
I have been a member of LA Fitness, and six months ago, because the location was near my home, I signed a month-to-month with Tapout in Lawrenceville. I would go occasionally on a Saturday or Tuesday. However, I saw that the $40.00 paid each month was a waste of my money.
In July 2022, Atlanta Fitness charged my account $65.00 plus the $40.00 monthly fee. I called the gym and was told that I needed to speak to a manager after 1:00 p.m. I called after 1:00 p.m. and was told that the manager was in a session. I said, "please ask him to call me." He did not call. The next day at 1:00 p.m., I called the gym again. I was told, he is not available. I left my number. No one returned my call. I called after 5:00 p.m. and I said, I want to understand the reason I was charged $65.00 plus my regular $40.00 in July. I want to cancel my membership. Again, no one returned my call. I let it go!
In August, I started to seek cancelation of the membership. I phoned and was told to call after 1:00 p.m. I phoned after 1:00 p.m. No one returned my call. I called after 4:00 p.m. I informed the staff person that I want to cancel the membership. His response was, "you have to speak with a manager." Out of all these attempts to cancel the membership, I finally called and got a manager on the phone. Do you know he told me that I have to come in person to cancel the membership? I hung up in disgrace. At the beginning of this review, I stated I was a member of LA Fitness. When I canceled my membership with LA Fitness, it was managed on the phone.
Well, I went into the gym with a tag and card in hand. I said I want to cancel my membership. The crew cut manager said, well, can you tell me why you are canceling the membership? I said, can you tell me the reason I had to come in person to cancel this membership? No response. Finally, the crew cut manager said, it will be 30 days before we can cancel, and we will charge you the $40.00 monthly fee. I lost it. I said, I have tried to cancel this membership for two months, but to no avail, because you and your staff don't possess good customer service acumen. And now you are going to charge me $40. for your lack of skill. I will not authorize the payment. He turned in the swivel chair and said, if you don't pay, we will turn it over to collections. I responded, let's do that. Have you heard of lawyers and customer reviews.
Lesson Learned: This gym avoided any contact when I wanted to cancel. Be cautious of this gym.
